Counseling & Psychological services (CAPS) is hosting a free on-campus suicide prevention intervention training known as University Gatekeeper Program (UGP) in Mammel Hall Room 162 on October 5 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.This program teaches participants how to assess a person for possible suicidal thoughts or behaviors and how to intervene to get them the help they need both on and off campus. The session will take approximately 90 minutes and facilitated by two licensed therapists from the CAPS office. Participants will learn extensive background information about suicide causes, incidence/prevalence, impacts, and evidence-based prevention strategies. UGP will allow participants to practice the intervention strategies they are taught in partnered exercises and with facilitators in a large group simulation.
