On Thursday, April 23rd, at 5:00 pm, Salvador Becerra will perform a senior jazz piano recital at the Strauss Performing Arts Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. Mr. Becerra will perform original compositions along with arrangements of jazz standards. This performance will be live-streamed on the School of Music YouTube channel.

Salvador Becerra (pianist) is a student of Prof. Christopher Leach and studies jazz piano and music technology at UNO. While in school, Salvador has had the opportunity to play jazz music around the world, including Israel, Uruguay, Paris, Italy, and Morocco. Additionally, he has performed alongside Arturo O’Farrill, Jose Valentino, Wycliffe Gordon, James Morrison, and many other inspiring jazz artists. As a freshman, he served as the pianist for Jose Valentino’s Somos UNO recording project. Salvador also frequently plays live music around the United States, having sat in with the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at Birdland in New York, accompanying Marcey Yates at Somewhere Fest in Wichita, Kansas, playing at Trio jazz club in Sioux Falls, and frequenting Red Lion and the Jewell in Omaha. He serves as a pianist and composer in a local jazz fusion band titled Fission, and has performed many times with Matt Wallace, Skye Junginger, and many other fantastic local musicians. He is also a recipient of the FUSE grant, which enabled him to create a culminating audiovisual research project that was performed at the Joslyn and received an outstanding award from the FUSE grant committee. Salvador has also received the undergraduate student award in his BA in Jazz and Music Technology, along with department honors in Spanish.
