On Friday, December 5th, at 7:30pm Robert Russell will perform a senior saxophone recital at the Strauss Performing Arts Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. Mr. Russell will perform works by Paul Creston, Eugène Bozza,  Henri Tomasi, Bob Berg and his own compositions. The performance will be live-streamed on the School of Music YouTube channel.
 

Robert Russell is a student of Dr. Matthew Storie majoring in saxophone performance at the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Music. He is a saxophone specialist playing all variations of his instrument in any style, from classical to jazz to commercial, to experimental. Robert is half of the duo, Dovetail, that he performs in with his fiancee Claire. Robert is also the founder and director of the Loess Hills Jazz Orchestra, an innovative and dynamic eighteen-piece jazz band based out of the Midwest. The group is composed of like-minded up and coming jazz musicians that are passionate about their craft and their community. The Loess Hills Jazz Orchestra collaborates with school districts, giving young musicians a chance to interact and play with professional musicians and exposure to jazz education.

Robert is a music teacher at Thompson Music, Dietze Music, and Nebraska Music Company, in addition to teaching privately. During his time at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Robert has played in a variety of ensembles including; The Great Plains Big Band, Jazz One, Combo One, The Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Jazz and Classical Saxophone Quartets.

In March of 2025 Robert received a grant from UNO’s Research and Creativity Department to perform with his duo and UNO’s Jazz Saxophone Quartet to perform at a Regional National American Saxophone Alliance Regional Conference.
