recital in the Recital Hall of Strauss Performing Arts Center on the University of Nebraska at
Omaha campus. Mr. Martinez will perform works by brilliant composers such as Fernando Sor,
J.S. Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Enrique Granados. The performance will be live-streamed on
the School of Music YouTube channel.
Alex Martinez is a budding guitarist and musician who hopes to one day travel the world
performing concerts and teaching students in the Classical and Flamenco styles. Although he had
been playing guitar from the age of 11, he found his true passion for it only recently when he was
a senior in high school and has been pursuing it full-heartedly ever since. Alex began his studies
with students of UNO’s own Prof. Hadley Heavin before taking lessons from the maestro
himself. His first 2 years in undergraduate studies he spent at Florida State University, studying
guitar performance under the late great Prof. Bruce Holzman and Dr. Celso Cano before
returning to his roots here in Omaha. Alex now studies again with Prof. Heavin and will continue
under him to receive not only his BM in performance but also his MM.
Alex has collaborated with many guitarists, violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists through
guitar quartets and chamber ensembles. He frequently performs for exhibitions at the Joslyn Art
Museum, fundraisers and celebrations such as at the Stockyard Exchange Ballroom, and other
private bookings. He recently held a concert at his high school, Creighton Prep, hoping to inspire
the next generation of guitarists and musicians. Alex also teaches over 15 students, applying
elements of his classical technique and style to all types of music.
UNO is committed to maintaining a welcoming and accessible environment across all of its campuses and has developed information for the public and visitors. Visitors can contact and learn more about campus accessibility through the following links:
