DESCRIPTION:Revisiting Past Exposures by Matthew Terry is the newest exhibi
t in the Osborne Family Gallery\, and is on view through April 23\, 2026. T
he gallery is open all hours the library is open.\n\n \n\n \n\nAbout the Ex
hibit\n\nRevisiting Past Exposures is inspired by the idea that when you se
e a place an image of it is created in your mind\, and until revisiting thi
s location you view it as your mind previously saw it. Sometimes upon retur
ning you realize things aren't quite as you remembered\, and these two sect
ions of time don’t blend so smoothly into one another. My project attempts
to recreate this experience through presenting handheld printed images alig
ned with modern scenes. This is an experience I feel most people can relate
to. This project is equal parts final product\, preparation\, and process\
, placing great significance on the time that passes between shooting the f
irst image\, making a physical print\, and then aligning this print for the
final “present day” image.\n\n \n\n \n\nWhile these photographs tend to be
shot within relative close proximity to where I live\, the time between th
e two aligned shots can span months and even years. This documents the comb
ination of my own past and present experiences\, and challenges me to relat
e the two in order to present this idea to the viewer through my images.\n\
 n \n\n \n\nFurthermore I like to keep a level of individual interpretation
in my work\, and I want my viewers to experience the work aesthetically\, y
et still take more from the deeper meaning. I want the viewer to reflect on
the relationship between the past and the present\, seeing how powerful th
e human mind is at creating a defined image of a place\, and how until revi
siting that location our perception of it ceases to be changed\; commenting
on the way we compare the past and present\, and how it often takes witnes
sing the past in a present perspective to understand how different and stra
nge it appears in relation.\n\n \n\n \n\nAbout The Artist\n\nMatthew Terry
is a Contemporary Photographer and graduate of the Academy of Art Universit
y\, where he attained his BFA-Photography with a focus in Fine Art Photogra
phy in December of 2014. Currently located in Iowa/The Quad City area\, Mat
thew picked up his first film camera in 2004 at age 16\, and since has exhi
bited and sold work at galleries in Rome\, San Francisco\, Minneapolis\, Co
lorado\, Kansas City\, Baltimore\, and more. Additionally seeing work publi

Additionally seeing work publi

hibit\n\nRevisiting Past Exposures is inspired by the idea that when you se
e a place an image of it is created in your mind\, and until revisiting thi
s location you view it as your mind previously saw it.
