The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature organizes a talk series entitled Language for the Professions. This informal series is oriented towards undergraduate students and highlights the importance and benefits of bilingualism in different careers. Although the event highlights the importance and role of bilingualism in the professional sphere, the event is held primarily in English.

About Christian Espinosa Torres
Christian Espinosa Torres has been part of the Omaha community for over 16 years, working across diverse fields, from civic engagement to economic development. He has established himself as an advocate for inclusivity and empowerment. Currently, as the Assistant Director of the City of Omaha's Human Rights and Relations Department, Christian oversees the Economic Development Division. He works with partners such as Nebraska Enterprise Fund, Catholic Charities, Heartland Workforce Solutions, Nebraska Business Development Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce to drive economic equity and inclusion. His dedication transcends city boundaries; in his prior role as a Constituent Services Representative for Congressman Ashford, he helped the District 2 community navigate federal agency interactions while championing the interests of small businesses. With a journey marked by grassroots involvement as a Civic Engagement Coordinator and impactful research initiatives at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, he embodies a dynamic approach to community advancement. His volunteer commitments include chairing the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative Board and the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board for Mayor Stothert and serving on the boards of the Heartland Workers Center and the National League of Cities Economic Development Subcommittee.
