LGBTQIA2S+ people and communities have been in Nebraska long before it’s statehood and before the Stonewall Riots in 1969. Individuals and communities’ histories are an important part of Nebraska and the United States. In this presentation, "Taking Pride in Nebraska LGBTQ+ History", panelists will share information about LGBTQIA2S+ history, research, community programming, and the traveling exhibit, "Pride and Joy: Nebraska History" highlighting their unique perspectives as archivists, public historians, curators and scholars. A short Q&A will follow.

We acknowledge that this history is more complex than can be expressed in a single presentation, exhibit, or other program. Nebraska’s LGBTQIA2S+ communities have and continue to experience joy and sorrow, engagement and political turmoil, resilience and discrimination. This will not be an exhaustive Nebraska LGBTQIA2S+ history. There are more stories to be told, and we invite you to share, reflect, and learn alongside us.

“Taking Pride in Nebraska LGBTQ+ History" is part of the "Pride and Joy: Nebraska History" grant, a collaborative project hosted by the University of Nebraska at Omaha Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library. This presentation is brought to you with support from Humanities Nebraska, a statewide, non-profit organization helping Nebraskans explore what connects us and makes us human, with additional funding from the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

The presentation is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Questions can be submitted for panelists during registration.
