Guest Lecture: Emmy-Winning Journalist Mark Pettit Returns to UNO
We’re pleased to invite you to a special guest lecture featuring Mark Pettit, Emmy Award–winning investigative reporter, bestselling author, and former UNO student.
While studying journalism and criminal justice at UNO and working for KMTV-3, Mark began investigating the John Joubert serial murder case—a relentless pursuit of truth that has spanned four decades and led to his national true-crime bestseller A Need to Kill, now newly updated and released in its final form.
In this session, Mark will share how he continued uncovering evidence long after Joubert’s execution and how modern AI-restored “Death Row Drawings” and behavioral analysis helped complete the psychological profile of Nebraska’s most notorious serial child killer. Mark will also share insights from the victims’ families, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and the killer himself.
Mark will also take questions from students and faculty during this special appearance.
