Counseling & Psychological services (CAPS) is offering a free on-campus suicide prevention intervention training known as University Gatekeeper Program (UGP). This program teaches participants how to assess a person for possible suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors and how to intervene and get high-risk individuals the help they need both on and off campus. The sessions are approximately 1 hour & 45 minutes in duration, are offered about once a month, and are facilitated by two licensed therapists from the CAPS office. Participants will learn extensive background information about suicide causes, incidence/ prevalence, impacts, and evidence-based prevention strategies. UGP also allows participants to practice the intervention strategies they are taught in partnered exercises and with facilitators in a large group simulation
