The University Gatekeeper Program (UGP) teaches participants how to assess a person for possible suicidal thoughts or behaviors and how to intervene to get them the help they need both on and off campus. The session will take approximately 1 hour & 45 minutes, be offered once a month, and facilitated by two licensed therapists from the CAPS office.
Participants will learn extensive background information about suicide causes, incidence/prevalence, impacts, and evidence-informed prevention strategies. UGP will allow participants to practice the intervention strategies they are taught in partnered exercises and with facilitators in a large group simulation.
All campus community members are welcome and no prior mental health training or knowledge is required to become UGP certified on our campus. Separate sessions are offered for faculty/staff & for students. If you are a student who is also employed by the University, please sign up for a student training session.
