Presentation Title: Optimizing physical therapy assessments and rehabilitation

Presentation Abstract:

The lower extremity forms a crucial structural and functional unit of human locomotion, with each major joint playing an integral role in maintaining normal function in daily life. Chronic impairments of the lower extremity can lead to a wide range of dysfunctions, making it essential to recognize and assess these issues to design effective rehabilitation strategies that restore function and improve quality of life.

However, as clinicians, we still face a significant gap in the availability of reliable and valid tools for assessing these impairments. Furthermore, the existing literature lacks evidence on comprehensive treatment strategies that address the full spectrum of impairments. My current work focuses on bridging these gaps by developing valid assessment tools and testing comprehensive rehabilitation approaches to improve outcomes for individuals with lower extremity impairments.

About the speaker:

Abbis Jaffri, PT, MS, PhD, is a Fulbright Scholar and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Creighton University. He is a licensed physical therapist in both Nebraska and New York. Dr. Jaffri earned his physical therapy degree in Pakistan, a master’s in kinesiology from Penn State, and a PhD in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia. His research focuses on understanding neuromuscular adaptations in lower extremity injuries and developing optimal rehabilitation approaches to enhance functional outcomes.
