Celebrate the Fourth of July!

The Henningson Memorial Campanile is a visible part of the Omaha skyline and the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The 16-story tower stands at 168 feet and contains 47 bronze bells, weighing a combined 12.5 tons. UNO broke ground for the tower’s foundation in May of 1988, and it was completed in 1989 thanks to a donation from Margre Henningson-Durham, who with her husband Charles W. Durham were significant donors for the Durham Science Center. The campanile’s construction is in memory of Margre’s parents, Henning and Rose Henningson, and sister, Helen Henningson-Grimes.

A celebrated artist on carillon and organ, Tin-Shi Tam has given recitals in Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United States. She was a featured carillon recitalist at the Festival International de Carillon en Cote d'Or in France, the Rockefeller Carillon Series at The University of Chicago, and the congresses of The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA). In 2008, Tam represented GCNA to perform at the World Carillon Federation Congress in Groningen, The Netherlands. At present, she is the Cownie Professor of Music (university carillonneur) and the chair of the keyboard division at Iowa State University.
